The Beginnings of Humanature and Carbonature
In 2006, I pioneered a unique style that combined bronze and cast lead glass crystal to represent the human form. However, this work ceased when my bronze caster moved away, leaving me unable to continue. After a period of frustration and mourning, I eventually let go of this style.
Five years later, I developed the Humanature technique, using bark and weathered wood to create sculptures. This new style emerged from spending time in forests, searching for materials. A significant moment came when Noongar Elder Eugene Eades, upon seeing my first Humanature exhibition, remarked, "It feels like I am walking with the Ancestors." His words profoundly impacted me.
In 2015, I introduced Carbonature, inspired by the abundance of charcoal from forest fires in Western Australia. This practice, while controversial, led me to create art from the charred remains, celebrating the resilience of regenerating eucalyptus trees.
I feel honoured to be able to share this style with you to produce your own sculptures. Over fourty video's in YouTube gives you an insight into everything you need to know.
